I know momma,
I know that this is the hardest thing you’ve ever had to watch your baby go through. You’re right, It’s not fair and I know you would gladly take their place in a heartbeat if you could. Life can be so cruel and people will mean well and offer you advice because they just don’t know. They don’t know how tired you are. They don’t know how much information you just had shoved into your brain in a three day time period before you were sent home with your child and you feel completely disqualified to care for. They don’t know that you’re terrified you might mess up and kill your child. You’re so tired because you can’t sleep anymore. You wake up at 2am to check their levels and then your up on and off all night long because all you really know, is they can’t be high and they can’t be low. You have no idea what the numbers your calculating actually mean and you’re just praying you wrote everything down correctly and can make it to that morning call for check in with your diabetes team. You’re gonna chart everything down and stress about every carb. You might even find yourself standing over them while they sleep trying to make sure they’re breathing, I KNOW I DID! I was so scared she would die in her sleep. It takes a strong mother to raise a type 1 diabetic. Let me just say this… MOMMA, YOU ARE STRONG! You might not feel like it but there isn’t a thing you wouldn’t do for that kid so you will be strong and you will figure it out because YOU ARE MOM. It might not seem like things will get easier but I’m here for you and you can use our life experiences to ease your mind knowing that it did in fact get easier for us. Not perfect, but easier.
Until next time, Be blessed!
